This divya desam is also known as Uraiyur and Nichulapuri. The story is that Lord Ranganatha came all the way from Srirangam to marry Vasa Lakshmi of Nichulapuri, the daughter of Chola King Dharmavarma.

This divya desam is the avathara sthalam of Tiruppan Azhwar, who wrote Amalan Athipiran. There is a separate sannithi for Tiruppan azhvar here.

As mentioned earlier, Sri Ranganatha came all the way from Sri Rangam to marry Vasa Lakshmi of Nichulapuri. In the month of Panguni, on a day prior to Uttiram, the utsavamurthi of Sri Ranganatha comes all the way from Srirangam temple to Uraiyur and the kalyana utsavam with Vasa Lakshmi is celebrated at Uraiyur, thus annually re-enacting t he divine wedding which took place long ago.
