The Tanjai mamani kovil was moved frome a place called Vambulal Salai to a its present location at Vennatrankarai during the rule of Maratha king Tulsa between 1763-1787. The same king is said to have moved the Singa Prumal kovil (Narasimhar Swamy kovil) from Melveli thottam to its present location near Tanjai mamani kovil. The Mani kundram temple was previously located in Kalimedu and latter moved to a location near Vennatrankarai in between Neelamega Perumal kovil and Melsinga Perumal kovil, and is also known as Nadu kovil.

This is the divya desam where Sri Nainar Acharya, Swamy Desikan's son, ordained that during Anadhyanam period (when Divya Prbandham should not be recited) Desika Prabandham should be recited in the three temples.
