This place is close to Kaveripoompattinam and is mentioned in Silapathikaram. Therefore this temple must have been in existence since 1-3 century A.D. The changu held by Perumal here is extremely beautiful.

Moolavar: Nan mathiya Perumal (Ven sudar Perumal), seen in standing posture, facing east.
Utsavar: Vyoma Jyothi Piran
Thaayaar: Sengamala valli thaayaar
Theertham: Chandra pushkarani
Vimaanam: Chandra vimanam
Prathyaksham: Chandran, Deva Brindangar

There is a garbagriha for the moolavar. There is no separate sannithi for thaayaar, nor there is a vimaanam for Her. There is only a small mandapam in front and the utsavar is kept outside the garbagriha. Perumal is seen here with Neela devi and Bhoodevi.

There are plenty of inscriptions on the temple walls that document generous donations to the temple. Interestingly, most of the donations seem to have come from general public, including one from a group of ten brahmins, another from a lady in Tirukkottiyur, another from a merchant in Gangaikonda Cholapuram.

Among the royal families, it appears that, Kings Parakesarivarman, Rajaraja Cholan I, Rajendiravarman I, etc have had connections to this divya desam.
