Sri Venkata Krishnar

Moolavar: Sri vEnkata Krishnan
appears with two hands as similar to Lord Krishna in his avatharam and appear with a huge mushtache that conforms to his kula vazhakku or the order of the (HIS) clan as the chrioteer. No other Lord of the 108 DD has a mushtache !

thayar: Sri rukmini piraati,
others appearing with HIM: balarAman, saathyaki, aniruththan, pruthyumnan,

Facing: east Facing

Ursavar : Sri pArtha sArathy

thaayar: Sri vEdavalli

This is one of the greatest of all the kshEtrams in a sense that the last avathram (Srikrishna) of the lord is present here in his true replica as moolavar). However it is the thaayaar sannidhi that is very special to bhakthaas seeking boons instantly.

vimaaNam : aanantha vimaanam (note that thirumalai has anantha nilaya vimaanam and oppiliappan koil has sudhdha aanantha vimaanam.. Please note that majority of kshEthrams with Krishna as the Lord has aanantha vimaanam). There are 4 other vimaanam at this kshEtrham, namely:

praNava vimaanam (similar to srirangam)
pushpa vimaanam (for Lord Rama)
sEsha vimaanam
daiveeka vimaanam.

The main vimAnam itself has a special feature which is very unique. The temple vimanam itself appears similar to a gOpuram. There is one more temple in the 106 DD that has a vimAnam similar to this construction, the most popular thiru naRaiyoor or known as "naachiyaar kOil" of Srinivasa perumal . There are several kal vettu at this kOil and it is notable that many more research can be done by studying these kalvettus as they may provide a vital link to the days of king sumathi and vyAsar.

Theerththam : kairaviNi theerththam or popularly known as allik kENi. It is also the aitheeham that five (5) other theerththams are surrouding this puNya theerththam in aruvam, namely:

1. indra theerththam
2. sOma theerththam
3. agni theerththam
4. meena theerththam
5. vishnu theerththam
Though this theerththam is very close to sea, fish never lives in this theerthtam. It is believed fish keeps out of this theerththam as this theerththam is considered very holy and used for perumaal's thirumanchanam. This theerththam is also known as allik kulam as thirumangai delivers in his pasuram as allikEni (tank with alli flowers, a type of tulip flowers). Hence this kshetram is named as thiru allik kEni. In puranic period both mylai and thiruallikENi are considered as the same place.

Prathyaksham:
Arjunan, Sumathi Rajan, Brigu Maharishi, saptha rOmar maharishi, aththiri maharishi, jaajali maharishi, maarkaNda maharishi, In total saptha maharishis or 7 rishis did penance here, at this holy brinda AraNyam and attained the blessings from the Lord.

Sri PArthasArathy swAmi Sannidhi

According to the BrahmANda purANam, a king by name Sumathy prayed to ThiruvEngadamudayAn of Thirumalai to give him darshan as the charioteer to PArtha in the MahAbhAratham discoursing on Srimad Bhagavadh Geetha, shortly as GeethAchAryan. ThiruvEngadamudayAn appeared in his dream and directed him to go to BrindAraNya were He would give him dharshan in the form the king wished.

Meanwhile, AthrEya maharishi, requested his AchArya vEdavyAsa to tell him a best place for doing tapas and he was also asked to go to BrindAraNya were already the King Sumathy is doing his tapas. VEdavyAsa also gave AthrEya maharishi the Divya MangaLa vigraham of Sri Venkata KrishNa swAmi (moolavar) with a conch in His right hand and Gnana Mudra in his left hand pointing to his Holy feet thus signifying the charama slOka
" Sarva dharmAn parithyajya mAm Ekam saraNam vraja
Aham tvA sarva pApebhyO mOkshayishyAmi mA suchaha".

AthrEya maharishi then carried the vigraham to the BrindAraNya kshEtram and met the king Sumathy and explained him of the circumstances that led him to come to that place. The king was very happy on seeing the vigraham of the EmberumAn in the he wished and celebrated the ChaitrOtsavam.

The moolavar is Sri VEnkata KrishNan facing East. Sri RukmiNi thAyAr is also seen to His right. This is one of the very few temples where the thAyAr is present along with the moolavar in the same Sannidhi. To His left is SAtyaki, His younger brother. His elder brother Balaraman is seen on the right side facing North and His son Pradyumnan and grandson Aniruddhan are seen to his left facing south. This is the only divya dEsam where we can have dharshan of the entire family of Sri Krishna.

It is considered that by worshipping Sri PArthasArathy here, the complete Bhagavadh Geetha is studied as the Conch in His right hand represents the slOka "Panchajanyam HrishikeshO.." and as highlighted earlier the left hand represent the juice of the Bhagavadh Geetha, the Charama SlOkam, "Sarva dharmAn _..mA suchaha".

The utsavar, here, is actually called PArthasArathy as He represents Sri KrishNa with arrow marks on His face caused by Bhishma.

It is an unique feature of the utsavar that the gold copper coloured face that He gets after Thirumanjanam turns into black with blue tint, within an hour, enhancing the beauty of the ever smiling Thirumukam. Even Experts in metallurgy are baffled and are not able to explain the changing colour of the face of the Utsavar.

Sri RanganAthar Sannidhi & Sri VEdavalli thAyAr Sannidhi

This is the oldest of the sannidhis in the temple. It is said that Sri RanganAthar (also known as MannAdha swAmy) is said to have appeared in this sthalam, much prior to Sri PArthasArathy. The story (Aidheeham) behind this sannidhi is that Sri MahAlakshmi came from away from her abode (the chest[thirumArbu] of Sri MahA vishNu in the KsheerAbdhi sayanam), due to some misunderstanding, as a young child to this kshEtram were She was brought up by Bhrugu Maharishi. Bhrugu Maharishi got Her married to Sri RanganAtha on the mAsi dwAdhasi day. This day is considered very sacred as it is said that Sri Vedavalli thAyAr has addressed Sri RanganAthar to bless all BhakthAs who worship them on that day to attain all prosperity and salvation (mOksha) at the end.

In Sri RanganathAr's Sannidhi we can also see two other emberumAn. One is Sri Narasimhar facing North and the other is Sri VarAhar facing south. Sri VEdavalli thAyAr has a separate sannidhi on the right side of Sri PArthasArathy swAmi sannidhi.

Sri TheLLia Singa PerumAL Sannidhi This sannidhi is exactly behind PArthasArathy swAmi sannidhi. The moolavar is Yoga Narasimhar and the utsavar is called TheLLia Singan or Azhagiya Singan. It is said that Sri Narasimhar appeared to Athri Maharishi, being pleased with his tapas and at his request took His abode in BrindAraNya.

Sri Chakravarthy Thirumagan Sannidhi

Sri Rama with is brothers and SItA pirAtti gave dharshan to Maduman Maharishi who did penance at BrindAraNya to have dharshan of Sri Rama with His consort and His brothers.

Sri VaradarAjar Sannidhi

Sri GajEndra VaradarAja swAmy gave dharshan to SaptharOma maharishi as the Adhimoolam. He gives sEvai as Nitya-Garuda vAhanAroodan who came to save the elephant from the clutches of the crocodile. It is said that the GajEndra AzhwAr vaibhavam(story) stands testimony to the fact that Sriman NArAyaNan is "parathattuvam". As the elephant (GajEndra AzhwAr) shouts " AdhimoolamE", no body else dared to come to his rescue as nobody else fitted to the word "Adhimoolam", meaning the primordial one, except Sriman NArAyaNan.

AzhwAr, AndAL & AchAryar Sannidhi

There are sannidhis for all AzhwArs. PEyAzhwAr & NammAzhwar have separate sannidhi out the temple. Sri NammAzhwAr sannidhi is located in the VAhana mandapam. In side the temple only Thirumazhisai AzhwAr has a separate sannidhi. All other AzhwArs are located in one sannidhi just outside PArthasArathy swAmi sannidhi.

AndAL sannidhi is located separately to the left side of PArthasArathy swAmi sannidhi.

Amongst the AchAryas, there are separate sannidhis for Sri RAmAnujar, Sri ALavandhAr, Sri Thirukkachhi NambigaL, Sri VEdAnta dEsikar and Sri MaNavALa mAmuni. Other AchAryAs are located in two different sannidhis one near Sri MaNavALa mAmuni sannidhi and the other in the same place were AzhwArs are located.

One more importance to this sthalam is that Sri PArthasArathy Himself incarnated as Sri RAmAnujar when Sri kEsava sOmayAji did the puthra kAmEshti yAgam. It is for this reason that swAmi emberumAnAr's utsavam is celebrated on a grand scale just like the BrahmOtsavam of Sri PArthasArathy swAmi and Sri Azhagiya Singa perumAL.

This inscription can be found on a stone inside the temple. It is believed to have been created during the rule of Thanthivarman (a pallava king) probably during the year A. D. 808.

During Thanthivarman's rule, the temple authorities were not able to perform the daily duties that were required. Therefore, a bhakta by name Pukazhthunai Vijayaraiyan bought the land belonging to the temple, paying huge amounts of unprocessed rice (Nellu in tamil) and some Gold. Using the profits from the land he supported the daily activites at the temple. The inscription pays tribute to him and his efforts to keep the temple activities alive.
